Nyx
We resumed to the lounge after the meal that I had prepared for us, with a bottle of wine in tow. I was surprised that he hadn't thought that I was an alcoholic yet with the amount of wine that I had in the house. I always made sure that I was well stocked up on it; it was impossible to tell when a bad day at work would need solace, or when I would have comany.
"I've got something for you here in my pocket." Joel said to me cheekily, as we sat close together on the sofa.
I smiled at him. "Do I have to get it or will you?" I grinned cheekily.
He rolled his eyes amused. "If you give me a kiss i'll get it out for you." To which I responded with many kisses, leaning hard against him.
"Well?" I said eagerly. I had never been any good at Christmas. The anticipation had always got too much for me, and I was the child who peeked in their parent's closet to find the stashed presents. This hadn't got any better as I had got older. If anything it had got worse. "What is it?"
He rummaged in his pocket and pulled something out, keeping it covered at all times by his hands, placing it in my hand. I unfolded the booklet. The logo of my store stared back at me. "What is this?" I looked at him, turning the booklet over to see an order form and then flipping through the pages, my merchandise displayed creatively across the pages.
"It's a miniature catalogue." Joel beamed, obviously very enthusiastic about this. "These are going to be in everyone of our magazines tomorrow morning. I know a guy who did them for me discount. You said your shop needed more publicity. This is it. People who buy our magazines from all over the country are going to hear about your store." His voice ws animated, like a child explaining about his action man. "And they can order by phone or internet and then their stuff can be shipped to them. It's fool proof."
I looked at him, wanting to share his enthusiasm. "Joel, it's a lovely thought but I don't have a computer let alone the internet. Besides all of that, I haven't got the staff to run all of it."
"That's where I come in." He leaned closer. "I have just invested in a laptop so we can do all of this and the number that i've given them is for this second phone." He pulled another phone out of his pocket. "So you can answer calls. If you're unavailable, they can leave a message of their address and the codes for the items that they wants ecetera."
I still looked at him a little unsure. Could this work or was it a waste of time and effort? "But I don't even know how to use a computer. I'm a pen and paper kind of girl." I stifled a laugh, hoping that I wasn't offending Joel in anyway. Afterall he had gone to alot of trouble to sort all of this out for me. Yet I didn't want him to waste his valuable time chasing a dead end.
"I'll show you. There really isn't alot to it." He took my right hand and held it in his.
His eyes peered back at me and I knew that I had to give it a go, if not for my sake for his own. "You did all of this for me?" He nodded. "That's so sweet. You must have gone to so much trouble."
"It was no trouble at all." He interrupted. "It was my pleasure to help you out."
I threw my arms around him, pulling him in tightly. "Thank you. You really are a great guy, you know that?" I pulled away so our faces were so close. I gave him a soft kiss, then looking in to his eyes. We kissed again, this time longer, and he lowered me down on the sofa, laying on top of me. My hands remained on the back of his neck, but his began wandering. To begin with, they just stayed on my waist but then he went lower and I pulled away. "Joel, no." He climbed from on top of me and I felt a little embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I-"
"No i'm sorry." He apologised, taking a sip of his wine. "I shouldn't be so pushy."
"It's not that Joel." I put a hand on his thigh. "We both know our circumstances. Andy was the only guy i've ever been with. It's just strange, that's all."
"I know, I know. I respect that Nyx." He looked at me, and I did believe him. He always seemed sincere, and I knew that he thought doing me the favour of publicising my store looked bad on him for making the pass, but it was nothing more than a coincidence. The mood had been there, but I simply wasn't in the mood.
We sat there for a few moments in silence. "Listen, i'm going to go to bed, but you're more than welcome to stay."
"I'll get off home." He scratched the back of his neck. "I've already made an idiot of myself."
I took his hand. "You haven't. I'd like you to stay. Then we can do something tomorrow?"
He looked at me, debating for a moment or two then agreeing to stay. He went into the bathroom to get a wash while I climbed into bed. I heard the water running and slid beneath the satin sheets. The water stopped and then he approached at my bedroom door. "Where are the sheets?"
We had agreed for him to sleep on the sofa but all of a sudden I had a moment of strength that I thought I would never find again. "It's okay. You can sleep in here with me. That is if you want to." I awaited his response. "I hate to think of you down there all on your own."
"Okay." He stripped off to his boxer shorts and climbed into the bed beside me. I turned off the bedside lamp and cuddled up to him, resting my head upon his chest after kissing him softly.
It was strange to be in bed with another guy, but there was no one else i'd rather it be than Joel.
