Hiya
This is my first fic and I'm a little nervous, so, please be kind to me!
Also, I'm afraid that I don't know what different names people might have for things.
This is especially for Made2LuvU because she made me feel so welcome! Enjoy!
P.S. The story does get off to a slow start but it does get better further on!
Chapter 1
“Kendra! I cannot believe you’re spending Summer vacation and the new semester with us!” Sharpay Evans trilled into her snazzy pink mobile phone."Believe it, Sharpay.” A soft British voice answered. “Ever since Mum heard she’d got the cookery contract we’ve been packing to move over for the next 9 months.”
“Ha!” Sharpay let out a ‘stage-laugh’. “Don’t you mean your staffs are packing?!”
Sharpay carried on laughing and Kendra laughed softly along with her.
Kendra mentally sighed. She liked her cousin, even though she did have a tendency to lose touch with reality from time to time and be a little self-centred.
“Soooooooooooo, when are you coming over?” Sharpay asked.
“We don’t leave the UK for another 2 weeks yet.” Kendra replied.
At that moment there was a knock on Sharpay’s bedroom door.
“Uh, come in.” Sharpay called out; as if it inconvenienced her to have someone even dare knock on her door.
Ryan came in with a sheaf of papers in his hands.
“The lyrics to our new songs.” He whispered.
Sharpay waved a dismissive hand as Ryan laid the papers on a small table in the corner of the bedroom.
Ryan faintly heard Kendra’s voice on the other end of the phone.
“Is that Cousin Kendra?”
Sharpay huffed silently and nodded.
“May I say hi?” Ryan asked softly.
Sharpay rolled her eyes as she gave Ryan a ‘Must you?’ look.
“Ryan wants to talk to you.” Sharpay said, a tad huffily, as she handed the phone to her brother.
“Okay.” Kendra paused and then heard Ryan’s cheerful voice.
“Hey, Cousin Kendra!”
“Hi Ryan.” Kendra replied, instantly brightening. Ryan had always been her favourite cousin, (though she’d never tell Sharpay that!), because although he was dedicated to his acting, he understood Kendra...and her love of dancing.
“So, what’s going on in your world right now?” Kendra asked.
“Well, the run of ‘Twinkle Towne’ finished 3 weeks ago and Sharpay and I will be participating in the Summer Talent Show at the resort.”
“Oh wow! That’s fantastic, Ryan! So, I take it you’ve been busy choreographing the routines then?”
“Yep.”Ryan replied.
“How exciting, maybe you could show me a few tips and tricks when I come over?”
“Sure!” Ryan beamed.
In the background Kendra could hear Sharpay making sort of irritated sighing noises, her not – so – subtle way of telling Ryan to stop monopolising their cousin’s attention.
“Uh, well, Sharpay wants to speak to you again. It’s been great talking to you, Kendra.” Ryan said.
“You too, Ryan. Looking forward to seeing and dancing with you again. Take care, bye.” Kendra replied.
Kendra waited as the phone changed hands and then Sharpay’s voice trilled in her ear again for another 10 minutes until...
“Kendra! Dinner is ready!” It was Kendra’s mother, Juliette.
“Hang on a sec, Sharpay.” Kendra said, covering the mouthpiece with her delicate hand, she turned her head over her shoulder. “I’ll be down in a sec.” She called to her mother.
Kendra turned back, uncovering the mouthpiece, to finish the conversation with her cousin.
“Listen, Sharpay, I have to go now, my dinner’s ready. It’s been great talking to you! Can’t wait to see you! Look after yourself.”
“I know, it’s going to be soooooooooooooooooo fun! Ciao!” Sharpay chirruped
“Ciao.”
As Kendra put the phone down she ran her hand across her silky purple, quilted coverlet; her hand paused, the tip of one finger resting on a dark glossy wood photo frame. Sadness spread across Kendra’s face; the photo showed her in a long, floaty, white Ballroom dress, her fair hair curled and scooped up. A young man, about Kendra’s age, was next to her, dressed in a tuxedo and holding Kendra in a dance pose.
Kendra felt tears burning at the back of her eyes, she quickly shook herself.
“Kendra!” Her Mum called again.
“Coming.” Kendra called back.
Carefully swinging her legs to the floor and sliding off the bed, Kendra smoothed the creases from her long-sleeved lavender top.
Kendra sighed. “I can’t believe I’m leaving England in 2 weeks.” She thought.
Little did she know that before she knew what had happened, her life would change forever....
