Chapter 1
Ira’s Awakening Part One
Ira’s Awakening Part One
Ira’s feet landed silently as she ran to the clearing.
“Ira…” A deep voice boomed.
Ira stopped, and then said, “Who’s there?”
“Ira…” The voice boomed again, sending birds into flight towards the sky.
“Show yourself!” she cried, exasperated. A bush rustled behind her. Ira turned quickly on her heel and stared at a large tangle of vines fearfully. A tall, muscular figure rose from behind the shrub, standing in the shadow. It stepped forward, and Ira stepped back, speechless. She stuttered, then managed, “Who…are…you?”
The figure stepped forward again; close enough that Ira could barely see features. They looked familiar, from what she could see. The man, for she could tell it was a man now, stepped forward again, but before his face made it into the clearing, a blinding light shone from the sky. Ira shut her eyes, and when she opened them, the light had gone, and the figure had disappeared. “Who are you?”
Ira opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. Realizing what happened, she quickly ran to her bathroom. She swore under her breath as she looked into the mirror. On one side of her head, her hair and one eye had turned reddish-black. She remembered when this happened in the past; she swore under her breath again as she unbuttoned her pajama top, pulled it off, and rolled her undershirt up to her navel. At first her stomach looked regular, but as Ira pulled it back down, she saw a barely visible spot of red. She pulled it up again, swearing under her breath, this time to the top of her abdominals, revealing a slithering outline of a slender vine. Ira pulled her shirt back down, looked up and sighed.
She felt a jolt and jumped. Quickly wrapping her hair in a towel, without know why, Ira practically ran into the living room and up to the front door. She stood there, confused, and soon there was a sharp rapping on the door. As she opened it, she held her breath as her neighbor, best friend, and crush, Chase Mayson, walked into the house. “Chase!” Ira said, startled. “You’re here early.” She glanced at the clock while she said this, closing the door as to not let in the five-thirty chill.
“Yeah, well, I got this urge to see you.” He said, hesitated, then stuttered, “I-I mean I had to talk-no… I… I wanted to see you.” He was blushing. That was two odd things Ira just experienced in the same minute- Chase blushing, and Chase stuttering.
“Well, what do you want to talk about?” Ira asked him. He opened his mouth as if to speak, closed it, and pulled something out. As he handed it to her, Ira noticed it said happy valentines day on the cover. A card. She gasped, and remembered, finally, what the date was. She was about to say “I didn’t get you anything…” but stopped when she realized this wasn’t true. Holding up a finger, she dashed to her room and dug through her drawers. Pulling out a small box wrapped in red paper, she rushed back to the front room. Chase was sitting down.
“Um, here.” She said, handing the box to him. As he unwrapped and opened it, she talked. “I know how much you like snow globes, and I wanted to get you something special…” She paused as Chase gasped, and continued. “I mean, since you’re my best friend, and all. I don’t like you or-or anything like that.” Ira was staring at her feet, aware of the eyes staring at her blushing face. She chanced a glance up, and saw chase was switching his eyes from her face to the snow globe that had been engraved with “To Chase, from Ira” on a little plaque in front with two simple, gold-colored figures holding hands inside the glass orb. She looked down again and decided to open the card she had received. Seeing the message of “Be my valentine?” above a wonderfully hand drawn heart, which was next to another message, “My heart is yours.”, Ira gasped and saw that Chase was standing right in front of her, the snow globe sitting on the coffee table. The card slipped and fell out of her hands which were using his chest to support her trembling body. Ira thought something was wrong with her, but realized she was crying, and that the silent tears were of joy.
“You don’t like me in that way?” His question was disappointed, and Ira noticed he was looking at her sadly. He must think I was crying because I’d have to let him down… she thought. She nodded, shook her head, and shrugged. “What?” Chase said, confused.
“Yes I like you, no I don’t not like you that way, and I don’t know how to answer that question.” Ira explained. She heard how silly it was, and began to laugh, but ended quickly as her lips were soon busy with something else. As chase held her close, she slipped her arms around his neck and shuddered slightly. She shuddered again, and nearly collapsed, twitching. She slipped through chase’s arms, and as her towel fell and revealed her hair, the red vine markings were creeping up her neck and onto the other half of her body. Chase gasped and Ira’s twitching became more violent, and her hair frizzed and changed color on the other side of her head. Her body became still, and chase was nervous.
“I-Ira?” he stuttered. He leaned down to touch her face, and when there skin met, her eyes burst open and she was gasping as an electrical current ran up chase’s arm. He jerked back as Ira sat up.
“Chase?” She said, and fainted. [/color]
This is my first story, so please be nice! I've been working on it for a while and decided to find a place to post it.
